Chester le Street Town were missing several players for their trip to Bedlington and included a number of young players in the squad. Making his debut from the start was Keagan Spencer.
After 12 minute Callum Hope moved down the left and cut into the box but his shot across goal went wide of the far post. Bedlington came close to taking the lead after 33 minutes when they were awarded a free kick outside the area. Christopher Armstrong hit a good free kick over the wall but Jack Wilson made a good save to turn the ball away for a corner.
The Cestrian’s made a the breakthrough after 39 minutes when Alex White made a good run into the area and slipped the ball to Keagan Spencer who fired across the keeper into the far corner of the net for his debut goal for the club. On the stroke of half-time, Spencer played a great pass outside to Daniel Maddison who raced forwards to fire a shot across goal which went just wide of the target. Bedlington equalised after 62 minutes, Chris Armstrong climbed well at the back post to power in a header from a right-wing corner. After 70 minutes, Jack Foalle moved into the area and Chris Stephenson was penalised for a needless foul on him and Lee Scot converted the resulting penalty. Chester le Street pressed hard for the equaliser but rarely put the Bedlington defence under pressure, but missed a great opportunity to equalise right at the death when a good cross in from the left when across the goal and was missed by the strikers A very disappointing result but probably our performance deserved us nothing from the game.
