Chester le Street gained a well-deserved, valuable point from a 0-0 draw at Sunderland RCA. And, with a little bit of luck which teams at the bottom never seem to get, we could have snatched all three points. Chester le Street had to defend the slope and the wind in the first half. After 5 minutes, a corner from the right found Adam McGuinness and he powered in a header which brought a great save from Jack Wilson as he tipped the ball over the bar. RCA lofted many crosses into the area but they were all dealt with by the resolute Chester le Street defence. After 39 minutes, a through ball found John Butler and he back-heeled the ball to Michael Charlton who fired in a powerful shot which brought another great save from Wilson as he turned the ball around the post at full stretch. On the stroke of half-time, the ball was played into the Cestrians area for Jonathan Davis to flick inside to Charlton but he turned the ball just wide of the post from close range. Chester le Street came into the game in the second half. After 70 minutes, Dominic Laws latched onto a through ball an hit a good shot across goal which brought a good save from Jonathan Carmichael. After 78 minutes another through ball found Laws on the edge of the area but his shot went just over the bar. Chester le Street were unlucky not to snatch a winner after 85 minutes when Christopher Stephenson passed to David Surrey but his low shot was deflected just past the post. A good point from a great performance.
