Chester le Street Town

Durham United

Durham Challenge Cup Tuesday 15 December @ 7:30 PM Moor Park

Chester le Street town  progressed to the next round of the Durham Challenge Cup with a fairly comfortable 4-1 win over Durham United. In the early stages, Durham made a good start and we looked a bit rusty. Easy to see that we hadn’t played since November 4th. Durham took the lead after 13 minutes when Cyle Hunter made a quick break into the Chester area but was brought down by Kevin Dixon and Matthew Pennal converted the penalty.
Chester started to improve and were unlucky not to level the score after 16 minutes. A ball into the Durham area led to a scramble and the ball was only cleared to the edge of the area where Owen Henderson fired in a shot which crashed against the bar. Chester came close again after 43 minutes when Joshua Akal played the ball
into the area and when Liam Dixon tried an overhead kick keeper Mark Hodgson made a great save to turn the ball away for a corner at full stretch. However, from the corner Kevin Dixon planted a firm header into the net to bring Chester level. Chester dominated the second half. After 50 minutes a ball into the area was headed home by Liam Dixon to put Chester in front. After 57 minutes Jack Wilson launched a long clearance which bounced into the Durham area and went past the keeper towards the byline. Liam Dixon chased it down and from a very narrow angle managed to pull the ball across the goal and it went into the net by the far post. After 61 minutes, a free was played into Michael Hepplewhite just inside the area and when he was fouled he stepped up to fir home the penalty. Chester came close to another foal after 85 minutes when a ball into the area found James Conner but his header rebounded clear off the bar. A good result and performance given the long lay-off.
And it looks likely we will have another delay before our next game.
