Chester le street Town gave a good performance against a strong South Shields side but lost 2-1. Shields created an opening after 17 minutes when a ball into the Chester area found Callum Guy in space but his tame shot went straight to Arron Steavens. A minute later, David Foley raced down the left and fired the ball across the face of the goal but Ben Harmison just failed to make contact. Chester made an immediate break and a long clearance found Michael Hepplewhite and he quickly slipped the ball through for Kieran Megran but he fired over the bar. After 27 minutes, the ball was sent down the left and passed inside to Hepplewhite who moved the ball right for Owen Henderson to fire in a good shot which went just over the bar. Shields came close after 30 minutes when Darren Lough moved down the left and hit a cross-cum-shot which sailed over the keeper but came down from the underside of the bar and the ball was scrambled clear. Shields took the lead after 46 minutes when a ball into the Chester area found Guy and although his shot brought a good save from Steavens, who turned the ball onto the bar, the rebound fell for Harmison to fire in. Chester equalised after 68 minutes. Kieran Megran chased a ball down the right and hooked it towards the near post and Michael Hepplewhite did well to nip in front of the keeper and turn the ball into the net. After 75 minutes Shields hit a free kick over from the right to Gary Brown but his shot came back off the post. Shields scored the winner after 81 minutes. A ball into the area was met by a forward and his shot brought a great save from Steavens who turned the ball onto the post but again it fell kindly for Dillon Morse to fire home.
