Chester turned in a much-improved performance to beat Jarrow 2-1. Chester came close to making the breakthrough after 12 minutes when Christopher Stephenson moved down the left and curled a shot which was heading for the top corner of the net but keeper Jak Wells made a good save. Jarrow probably should have taken the lead after 26 minutes when Glen Hargrave beat the offside trap to race onto the goal but he blasted the ball well over the bar. After 33 minutes the ball was moved down
the right to Danny Hepplewhite and he quickly passed it inside to Michael Hepplewhite who made a good turn to fire in a shot which went just over the bar. After 40 minutes Jarrow played in a corner from the left and Darren Donnelly climbed well to get in a header but Maximiliano Coombes made a great save to tip the ball onto the bar and it was cleared. Chester made the breakthrough in first-half
stoppage time when Luke Collins received the ball near the right by-line and pulled it back for Michael Hepplewhite to fire in. Jarrow pressed hard in the early stages of the second half. Jarrow came close to an equaliser after 50 minutes when the ball was crossed in from the left and Hargrave flicked a header toward goal but Coombes made another great save to tip the ball to safety off the top of the bar. Jarrow equalised after 55 minutes when the ball was played in from the right for Daniel
Smith to fire in a shot and although Coombes got his hand to the ball he could not prevent it going into the net. On the hour mark, Kris Allen played a good pass to David Smith who cut into the box but he fired his shot over the bar from a good position. A minute later Jarrow made a quick break and the ball was played inside to Hargrave but his shot was deflected just wide of the target. Chester scored
what proved to be the winning goal after 75 minutes. They made a good move down the right and Harrison Scott crossed into the middle for Michael Hepplewhite to fire in. After 87 minutes, a mistake by Connor Lyon let in Hargrave but Coombes was quickly out to make a good block and prevent an equaliser.
