This squad transitioned from the previous Centre of Excellence team, which enjoyed real success at Under 7s and Under 8s level. Following that success, the team required a rebuild after four players were signed by Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Newcastle academies respectively — a fantastic achievement and a reflection of the quality within the group.
The current squad, made up of both boys and girls, now brings together players from no fewer than seven different teams who compete in the RFYL on Saturdays. Each player brings their own personality, style and identity to the group, creating a talented and exciting squad. The players are encouraged to express themselves, play with freedom and, most importantly, enjoy their football with a smile.
The team is coached by Lee Hope, our Head of Grassroots Pathway here at Chester-le-Street Football Club. Lee brings a wealth of experience to the role and is a previous Durham FA Coach of the Year, helping to support the players’ development both technically and personally.
